The vacation season is on and I’m sure everybody must be planning for Road trips and hiking.

We have already given the our share of tips for a good road trip, which you can read here. We will be sharing some essential things to keep in mind if you are planning a hiking trip. Here goes the list…

1.Kick it off with a short one

So if this is your first time hiking, plan a short one. A short hiking will help you identify your comfort and discomforts. Also, it can be a test round for all the stuffs that you have bought for your hiking trips. Ease yourself out. Know what you can and what you can’t.

2.There should always be a PLAN

If you go on regular hiking trips, you must know what this point is all about. There should always be a list of precautions and preparations. It is always a better idea to do a thorough research on the layout of the planned trek. Also, always have a backup plan for the obstacles that might occur.

3.The footwear must be A-Class

If your footwear failed you on a hiking trip, that will be the end of it and the consequences that come later can be too painful. Always select the best quality of socks and shoes, and avoid using the brand new stuff directly for the hiking. The shoes must be compact yet comfy and socks must be of good quality.

4.Avoid starvation, pack extra food

The energy must never go out of range. Always pack enough food and some more. Just in case you decide to extend the trek a little, food must not become an obstacle. Pack food items that are instant source of energy. Bananas and Snickers are some good options.

5.Always be direction ready

The last thing you want on a hiking trip, is to get lost. There is always possibility of that happening, so you must always be prepared. Learn to read a map and follow the compass. Your cell-phone network might not always be up so don’t rely on GPS alone. Keep the map of the area and a compass ready.

6.Pack a First-aid Kit

There should always be a first aid kit with basic medicines and first aid requirement with you. You never know what kind of trouble you may get in. So always be ready with a first aid kit and learn basic first aid before you start planning your hiking trip.

  1. Totally agree on the footwear. The first time I hiked, my shoes was a bit big and loose on me so whenever I step on something steep, my shoes goes the other way – if you get what i mean. I have posted about it on my blog, that’s the first blog post actually. Hope you could visit it too!
